Good but with flaws

Strengths: Good performance for price

Weakness: Large size, power consumption, documentation, XFX support, drivers

I ordered this card to replace a Geforce 7300GS which was not able anymore to manage my 24" dual monitors on a Vista x64 desktop. Windows Experience Index jumped to a 5.9 from 2.5. Card came with 3 cables missing (only DVI/VGA adapter and composite cable were in the box). I contacted XFX and after 4 days still no answer (over the phone I could not do it). In installation guide says not to use adaptor for power (so you should have a power supply with 2 PCIe). They also mention to use a power supply with 450W on PCIe output but my 550W source did not make it so I had to buy a 850W power supply (probably 650W would cover too). The biggest issue is its size. Is as long as the motherboard, wide as 2 slots and within this area you should not have anything on motherboard higher than the PCIe slot. I had a motherboard with 3 PCIe x16 slots and only in the third one I was able to insert the card after removing the case speaker a SATA connector for DVD burner and moved the HDD in other bays in order to make it room. So there is a good chance not to be able to install it on many mobos. NVidia driver was a dissappointment (compared to ATI) at least for managing multiple monitors, lucky you can do it from Control Panel. Overall NVidia Control Panel is quite poor as features. I had some issues at installation and you do not have proper doc neither in box nor on XFX site (although the card says is specifically designed for Vista, references to Vista in their specs are completely missing, there are only for XP).

Same thing happened to me, so I guess I'm not the only one.

I have a 500w PSU which came with only 1 6pin cable and the Video card needed 2.

Should I just go ahead and buy an "ULTRA 3-WAY POWER CABLE KIT (4-PIN TO 6-PIN POWER)"

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ | XFX - 512MB
