HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Compactness, brilliant display, tremendous capability for size and price

Weakness: Inexcusably difficult to transfer contacts & schedule from Palm device, typical MS instabilities, short battery life, less intuitive than Palm OS, lack of accessories

This is my 3rd PDA, after Palm M100 and Vx. I always thought size and weight reduction were more important in PDA's than increase in function. So I shunned HP and Compaq products until now. This thing is very small, very light, and as far ahead of Palm OS as Ninetendo is of Pong.

Much of the loss of intuitiveness is due to increase in functional capability compared with Palm device. There is so much more you can do, there are inherently more instructions to provide to the device.

The display is beautiful, makes color Palm look like primitive mosaic. Very sensitive to touch, which makes writing relaxing (no need to stab screen) and should enhance screen longevity.

Transcriber is very effective. In addition to saving time over graffiti, I expect it to save screen because the entire screen is used, rather then a nickel-sized spot at lower left. My only complaint of the transcriber is probably MS's fault. Even when entering numbers in a field for which only numbers are valid, such as times or dates, transcriber tries to recognize numbers as letters if you don't toggle over to number recognition. This is a very poor oversight.

If the device were capable of less, there would be less to criticize. I just hope HP and MS read these reviews and consider their customers' feedback. Of course if they don't, that will create opportunities for their competitors, which would be a healthy situation for us consumers.

I highly recommend the h1910.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Slim, lightweight case, beautiful color display, expandable memory

Weakness: Very poor battery management. Drains battery extremely fast. No internet connection.

The best PDA for the money, but do not plan on surfing the net, and stay near the battery charger. MP3's sound awesome through the built-in speakers. Sounds better than my Dell Axim 5.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Light and compact, bright screen

Weakness: Limited expandability

As a former Palm V and Handspring Visor Platinum owner, this IPAQ and the PocketPC is light-years ahead of the Palm! I have it set up to sync with Outlook on my office computer, and also to synchronize with Microsoft Money on my home computer. Setting it up to sync to two machines was simple. I believe I can also use it to transfer files between my office and home computers, but haven't tried it yet. I especially like the way it automatically stays sync'd while connected - no need to press the sync button and wait! PocketPC is also more seamless with Outlook than the PalmOS.
I chose light and compact over the bigger, more expandable IPAQs. I don't regret that decision because it does everything I need it to do.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: T-R-A-N-S-L-E-F-L-E-C-T-I-V-E Screen & Size (it matters)

Weakness: No Scrolling button on the left side

I guess, IPAQ decided to not to make the perfect Pocket PC by designing everything right except the scroll button.
Everything else is simply C-O-O-L..
I hope the next of these slim series will have Bluetooth and the same size.
My 4th PPC..Casio 125--Toshiba e310---Toshiba e740---and HP 1910...the best so far......
Don't miss this one. A true Palm Killer...

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Small, light-weight, quality-built, excellent screen, relatively inexpensive

Weakness: If you want wireless communication - this isn't the one for you

After several years of experience with both Palm and Pocket PC devices, the H1910 is the first PDA to really beat Palm in size, weight, price and power. It is much more powerful than any Palm device (save for wireless communication which it lacks) and the brilliance of its screen is second to none - beats Palm Tungsten by a mile. If wireless communication (other than IR) is important to you, this is not the PDA to choose, otherwise you can't go wrong. I found transferring data from Palm to this one a breeze (using Outlook) and it is yet to crash on me after 4 months of use. Last but not least, $10 will buy you software that upscales the processor to 300MHz performance. Highly recommended!

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: excellent screen and size. very cool design compared to h3000 and h5000 series

Weakness: poor battery life. no SDIO

very good device, the best option instead of a palm.
It´s a pitty about SDIO, no wireless connection. For the same price, I think I would purchase the Dell Axim

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Great Display Graphics, Contact information excellent: easy to use, very complete, transfers to Home PC quickly. Good quality MP3 music, Info to calendar is easy to print, nice alarm feature.

Weakness: Poor battery life but easy & quick to recharge, Not a communication device (Internet)

This is my first Pocket/PC - PDA and I love this device but I still use my Daytimer for rapid input throughout the day. The 1910 syncs data quickly with my PC and I do use some spreadsheet files for quick reference.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Wonderful screen. Nice features like the mp3 player and size. Very cool

Weakness: The applications keep running in the background even after you hit the X button in the corner. You have to tap 6 buttons before you can really turn it off in the system settings menu. Short battery li

This is my second PDA since the mid90's when I had a good 'ol Cassiopeia that had a keyboard and 8 Megs of memory. That helped me through my projects at the time. This one reminds me of that one, plus more! Has great colors, very bright and runs like a bullet. Very thin and light. Downside? It froze up on me on my second day and on my 4th day. Not a good sign. Dont look at the 'asset viewer' in the system - - It will freeze it up!!

Aside from that, it runs quite nice. Would I buy it again? Maybe... unless the next generation comes along right away.

I've had the same instability problems with mine. HP has been completely unhelpful.

Aside from this major problem and HP's extremely poor responses to my concerns I have been very happy with it.

HP (Hewlett-Packard) iPAQ Pocket PC h1910

Strengths: Very bright and colorful screen, slim and compact, decent sound, affordable.

Weakness: Explorer got "hung up" on 2nd day and had to soft reset.

I've been a Palm user for 3 years and made the switch to Pocket PC. The hardest part was transferring contacts to PC. I'm still learning how to use it, but so far I am satisfied I made the switch.

HP iPAQ h1910

The real problem is there wasn't much wrong with any of the range, leaving you to choose on price- get a case for that screen though
