The battery I purchased from sterlingtek (lithium ion rechargeable battery for BP-511)appears to be an excellent generic substitution for the Canon BP-511. It fully charged in the same time as the original Canon battery and held its charge for well over 200 photos on my G5 (with and without flash, lcd on). I plan to purchase another.

Strengths: can take lots of pictures before the battery drains
Weakness: none so far
I bought this battery as a backup battery and for the times when i cant easily charge up my other battery that came with my camera. I have been able to take over 400 pictures with my canon 20d camera before the battery was nearing the time to be recharged and that was with me using the lcd screen alot to go through different features of the camera. I would definately recommend this battery for someone who has a camera or camcorder which uses this kind.

Strengths: Extremely good capacity - 500-1000 pictures on one charge with normal use.
Charges relatively quick in my G5 - about 90 minutes
Weakness: Very heavy. It'll weigh down your camera, but for the capacity it provides, I personally think it's worth it.
I bought this battery to have as a backup for the identical one that came with my Canon Powershot G5. The battery is fabulous. I've always been very displeased with the shooting capacity of digital cameras in general - they would run out of battery in a very short time. This battery was one of the deciding factors for me buying a Canon Powershot G5. According to a test on dpreview, it's the best performing battery (when used in the G3) out there for any digital camera (at the time of testing).
I've taken a few thousand pictures with it so far, and I'm very pleased. When using the LCD display for a mix of movies and pictures (on my G5), I get around 600 pictures out of one fully charged battery. I've never completely "emptied" the battery with the LCD screen off (preview only), but based on my experience so far, I would think that you'll get somewhere between 600-1000 pictures out of one fully charged battery - maybe more - when the LCD is not on all the time. If you take a lot of pictures (I can easily take 500 on a weekend trip), I would still recommend buying an extra battery though. I'm panicked about ever running out of battery (or memory) while I'm shooting.
Should you buy a cheaper non-Canon brand equivalent battery? I've not tried an equivalent for the BP-511, but I've got a DigiPower equivalent for my Canon Powershot S200 (Elph II), and it's crap. I would never buy and equivalent for my G5 camera, because in my experience, it's quite apparent that you get what you pay for.

Weakness: Right now no weaknesses. Only concern how many time I can recharge it?
I got a Canon Optura Xi with Canon original battery. This battery lasts about two hours with LCD opened. Almost as good as the original canon battery.
To my surprise, the price is much cheaper and I will consider buying another one just for backup.

Strengths: Enough power to last for 1 day of regular use in a Canon G2
Weakness: Battery capacity does decrease over time, like any other rechargable battery
I have been using the BP-511 that came with my Canon G2. Perhaps because of its size, it has enough power for me to use my camera freely without worrying about battery life. It is more expensive than the generic ones, but like the Nokia's vs generic batteries case, there is a chance that those generic ones do not include circuit breakers and may kill your camera some day. Just spend a bit more and buy yourself some peace of mind. The capacity of the battery does seem to decrease after two years of use, which is not bad at all.

I use this battery with a Canon Digital Rebel, and I have literally taken 500 shots on 1 charge. This is head and shoulders about any other rechargeable batter that I have used. Kudos to Canon for this battery.

These batteries work great and they work with my battery charger. I haven't had a problem yet. The price was even better. I highly recommend these batteries.

Weakness: Way over priced. You can buy a 1300 mAh generic for as little as $9.99 or Pay as much as $80 for brand name Canon
Be smart & don't be fooled into thinking that the $80 brand name one is some how better. It's not. Similar to Circuit city selling you SOny iLink firewaire cable for $70 when you can buy generic firewire at newegg for $6.

Weakness: Battery Price and Quality both OK Scarce
BP-511 compatible with a lot of Canon digital camera and camcorder, so they are many 511/511a battery on the web except those in pricegrabber.com, like
www.canon-digital-came...
But it's hardly for us to find a 511 battery both have a great price and high quality, look forward the price drop of the OEM battery.
Weakness: does not last as long as the Canon brand
I bought these batteries for my Canon 20D. They work just fine. But in my experience, the Canon brand definitely last longer. I only get half the pictures as the Canon brand battery.
Stelingtek battery is much cheaper than pricy OEM batteris, but still expensive compared to ebay batteries. But considered you really need a luck to get good ebay batteries (I personally tried ebay 3 times, mix experience even with same seller/brand), stelingtek is a good choice.
Strengths: Solidy built, longer lasting than the actual Canon batteries
Weakness: Packaging not that attractive
Canon overcharges for their proprietary hardware. In that sense, they are like Apple. That's companies like Sterlingtek--which produce many generic items like these batteries--play a very vital role in the market. The performance from these batteries is excellent and on par with the original Canon product.
Strengths: wonderful - the price is great, the quality is the same as my original ones...
Weakness: didn't see any so far...
it was a great find when my old batteries suddenly gave up, i searched for a replacement and found this offer - great luck! so far, i don't see any problems whatsoever... the price is unbelievable, too...
they last longer, and cost less. what else can compare. why spend 50-60 dollars on 1 battery when you can get two for around 20 dollars
will be buying more in a couple of days
Strengths: praised by many. The best 3rd party battery you can get
Weakness: None so far
I need batteries for my 20D. The Canon brand is very expensive. So I search the internet and find that many people are praise the quality and compalibility of these batteries. They are about 1/5 the cost of the Canon and has more power. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Pleased with fast service, follow up, and 1 yr. guarantee.
The Sterlingtek battery is outlasting my original Canon battery in number of shots. Also I received 2 batteries for one-third the price of one Canon battery.
How can you loose? I recommend.
Strengths: Works with Canon ZR camcorder, no special separate charger is required, equivalent of the original Canon BP511
Weakness: Does not come with a cover for a contact surface
This battery can be charged exactly as the original one - while it is attached to ZR camcorder (in my case - ZR10) connected to electrical outlet. The technical characteristics are identical to those of the original Canon battery. For example, the playback time (using the LCD screen) is about 2hr. 10 min., the full recharge time is about 1hr. 35min., which is precisely the figures that given in ZR10 manual for the original Canon BP511.
I am buying a second battery primarily because when one battery dies, the other will be available. I am not sure how long other lithium batteries last, so my review is incomplete. i feel like it doesn't last long enough but i shoot alot. I expect it to last a day. It almost does. Either way the Canon D60 is a great camera and this the battery it uses.
Strengths: Small size, fast charging, convenient to have the extra battery
Weakness: Would like a bit more capacity, but wouldn't we all?
I'm using this battery with the Canon EOS 300D camera, and it's working great. I didn't want to go with a generic brand, because I tried that before on another canon camera, and the generic brand lost its charge much faster than the canon branded batteries. It's extremely convenient to have the extra battery around, because I don't have to keep "topping off" the battery in the camera all the time. For the price I definitely recommend getting a second battery for your canon camera.
i purchased this as a second bp-511 to use in conjunction with the one supplied with my digital rebel in the canon bg-e1 gattery grip. i did not want to use two different batteries in the grip. so far i am very pleased with performance and the amount of battery life.
